Local 1645, Salt Lake City Utah
Salt Lake City, UT had a big turnover after the past election in November.  This resulted in a new mayor and several new city council members.  We decided that this would be a perfect time to introduce them to the fire service and our issues with a Fire Ops 101 class.  It was a resounding success.  More

Andy Noble of Roseville, Michigan is an amazing young man who has cerebral palsy and chronic lung disease. When his mother, Laurie, adopted him as a fetal alchohol syndrome baby, he was not expected to live a week. In January of 2007 Andy turned 17 years old. Although physically challenged, Andy has one passion: to become a Firefighter, Police Officer, or Emergency Responder. To support her son's dream, Laurie writes letters to Police and Fire Departments around the world to request patches and memorabila. His collection of patches now approaches 15,000.  More

Just looked  at your site. Awesome to see Andy's Link. I need to ask a favor. Andy's 18th  Bday is Jan 31. It is a milestone as he was never suppose to make it . Could you  post and ask everyone to send him a birthday card?  His mom would like this to be wonderful day as the  cards just like the patches are what keeps him going. His address is
17368  Lowell St.
Roseville Mich. 48066.
His patch collection is amazing. I can't wait to  see the badge collection in his attic.
Thanks for all you do!

Voter Registration
As we roll into another year of elections, we want to remind everyone to check their voter registration status.
This is especially important if you have moved since you last voted in an election of any kind, or have not voted in a long time.

If you are not registered to vote, you cannot vote.
If you cannot vote (or choose not to), your politicians probably don't care what you think.

Be a citizen. Register and vote!

It Takes FOUR
Why does the Salt Lake City Fire Department need four firefighters on every fire engine and ladder truck?

There are many reasons that the Salt Lake City Fire Department needs and should have four firefighters on every fire apparatus.  Some of these reasons are to meet industry standards from agencies such as the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH).  Other reasons are for the safety of firefighters while performing their duties.  And most important is that four firefighters allows our department to deliver a higher level of service to the citizens of Salt Lake City.

NFPA 1710
The International Association of Fire Fighters is strongly advocating the implementation of NFPA 1710 across the United States and Canada. Our International continuously lobbies politicians on the federal level to recognize the standard, and attempts to gain the needed support to make it a federal requirement.  More information, see below.
